FPS Contract Supervisor Course

This course is specifically designed to provide tools and information necessary to perform DHS/FPS-contract supervisor duties.  Students will engage in scenario-based training exercises to develop decision-making skills and help students improve their leadership qualities.  Students must successfully pass a written exam consisting of 25 questions and an essay. Once complete, students will receive a certificate of completion and a final FPS Exhibit shall be entered into their respective training file.   

Because this course is a 9-hour training requirement, students are encouraged to make plans for meals (1 hour lunch).  There are a variety of local food options near the academy as well.

Remedial Training and FAQ

This is the second part of the Remedial Training required before PSOs are permitted to make their second attempt to qualify.   An FPS-monitored FAQ shall be conducted immediately following the Remedial Training.  The remedial training session takes approximately 4-5 hours.

First Coast Security Protective Service Officers are required to attend this semi-annual firearms qualification. PSOs shall report directly to FCTA no later than 0700 hours for their safety briefing and FAQ walk-through, then transport over to Blue Ridge Arsenal (2 miles), where the FPS-monitored FAQ shall be conducted at 0930 hours.

DC Special Police Officer 8 HR Renewal Class

This class meets the 8 hour certification renewal requirement, as prescribed by the Security Officer's Management Branch (SOMB).  In this class, students will review DC Metropolitan regulations and Use of Force policy.  In addition to firearms, intermediate and less-lethal weapons proficiency will be evaluated.  Each student will be required to pass the DC Metropolitan Police Department Firearms Qualification Course of Fire. 

A certificate of training shall be issued at the end of class to be submitted to SOMB by each student.

OC/MEB Refresher

This is a 4-Hour block of instruction that has been specifically designed to "remind" officers in the use of less-lethal duty weapons.  Special emphasis is given to relative Defensive Tactics and Use of Force / decision making.

Students will receive an updated OC/MEB certification card at the end of class.

New Hire Training - 64 HR Basic Security Officer Course (BSOC)

This is the 64 hour Basic Security Officer Course designed to prepare each candidate  for the FPS contract-required orientation exam.  Each New Hire candidate must successfully pass this course and will be evaluated in disciplines including: detainment, decision-making, and access control procedures.  A 50-question test shall be administered at the end to ensure that all students have successfully retained the skills and knowledge required to perform their PSO duties.

NOTICE - 1/26/16: In response to several of your emailed snow-removal/road access status updates, and in accordance with the OPM federal closure announcement, class will resume on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 0600 hours.  So that we can adequately continue your training and to avoid any further delays in your processing, you will he held responsible for reading chapters 6-17 and Appendix 4 in your SGIM.

We will discuss these areas briefly over the next few days and answer any questions you may have after reading them.  For those of you that may not have access to your copy of the SGIM issued in class, a PDF copy of the SGIM has been sent to your email.

This 40 hour course consists of 8 hours intermediate weapons training and 32 hours of firearms training.  Each New Hire candidate must successfully pass all practical exercises and the FPS-monitored Firearms Qualification (FAQ) to be considered for appointment to an FPS contract.

SEC Weapons Transition / ITR Training

This 40 hour course is exclusively designed to transition students from revolvers to semi-automatic firearms, while providing students with Imminent Threat Response skills and abilities.   The course emphasizes weapon handling, safety and communication during team deployment tactics.  Students are encouraged to prepare themselves and wear appropriate attire to participate  in physical exercises.

American Red Cross Initial Certification Course (CPR, AED and First Aid)

This class is the American Red Cross (ARC) Initial Certification Course, which provides training in CPR, use of the automated external defibrillator (AED) and basic first aid.  Students shall be required to pass both a written exam and a skill proficiency test in all areas covered.  Students shall receive an ARC certification card, which is valid for 2-years.

DC SPO 40 Hour Initial Training

This is the DC Metropolitan Special Police Officer (SPO) Initial Certification Course.  This 40 hour course includes DC MPD Rules and Regulations, Use of Force and Weapons certification training, including firearms.  Students will be required to pass the MPD qualification course of fire.  Upon successful completion of this course, students shall be issued a certificate of training that must be submitted to the DC Security Officer's Management Branch within 30 days.

This course does not include First Aid training, so candidates that do not possess First Aid/CPR certification must obtain training/certification before receiving a post assignment.
